What Pan Do You Use For A Sheet Cake?
The name already gives us an answer to the kind of pan you use for a sheet cake; you use a sheet pan. It is always best to use a sheet cake pan just like the one we have reviewed to bake any recipe that calls for it. This is because sheet pans are usually shallow and not as deep as other types and shapes of cake or baking pans. So if you bake a sheet cake in any other kind of pan, you wouldn’t get the expected shape and texture.
What Is The Size Of A Full Sheet Cake Pan?
The full size of a sheet cake pan as used by commercial bake shops are either 18 x 26 x 2 or 18 x 24 x 2. That’s just a variation of some 2 inches lengthwise; but the other dimensions are constant. The standard full sheet cake pan is 2 inches high and 18 inches wide.
The Fat Daddio’s Sheet Cake pan that we reviewed is however not a conventional/standard one because it has some sizes that are 3 inches high. This is quite common with many bakeware these days; a lot of them are made 3 inches high as against the conventional 2 inches.
Is A Sheet Pan The Same As A Cookie Sheet?
Although both types of bakeware look similar, a sheet cake pan is not the same as a cookie sheet. Cookie sheets are sometimes called oven trays in some regions while others call them baking sheets.
Sheet pans are bakeware that have rolled edges and are useful not only for baking but also for other recipes and styles of cooking such as roasting.
Cookie sheets on the other hand are best suited for cookies; they are usually designed with flat edges for ease of placing and removing cookies without distorting their shapes. Additionally, they are designed with a kind of lip on the short side to make for ease of handling.
Furthermore, a cookie sheet is not designed for any cooking style other than baking cookie and such like recipes. If for example you use a cookie sheet for roasting, the juices of the food would flow out of the sheet because of its design.
How Do You Get A Sheet Cake Out Of The Pan?
First of all, line your sheet pan with baking paper before pouring in the batter for baking. This is to ensure that your cake comes out easily from a sheet pan without breaking.
Then when your cake is baked, bring it out and leave it in the pan for about 10 minutes or thereabouts.
Then, run a spatula all around the edges of the cake to loosen it from the pan.
Finally, place an oven rack over the sheet pan and overturn it so that the cake pops onto the tray.
Note that there are some recipes that can be served straight from the sheet pan; you might also want to try those out.
Why Is My Baking Sheet Warping?
Your baking sheet is warping because of the high temperature of your oven. Most bakeware show the level of heat they can withstand so when you buy a baking sheet, check the maximum temperature capacity. With that in mind, you would know not to exceed that limit.
Another reason may be that it is too thin or made from low quality materials. That being said however, some bakeware is of good quality do still warp when in the oven but they come back to normal shape when the baking sheet cools.
