Maybe you’ve been wondering how to make chocoflan cake or you just stumbled on this article. Anyhow, you are in luck because this piece would help you know how to make this delightfully moist and mouth watering magical dessert.
Chocoflan cake is a combination of flan, chocolate cake and caramel sauce. It is also known as impossible cake mainly because of the magic of the flan getting to the base of the cake. The scientific explanation for that is as follows:-
The combination of baking soda and buttermilk in the cake batter produces gas that makes the lighter than the flan. This now makes the flan which is denser than the cake to sink while the cake batter that’s lighter rises to the top. Additionally, baking the cake in a water bath also facilitates the process by which the batter and flan mixtures reverse position while baking.
This recipe is also baked in a water bath to help the cake retain its moisture and texture by providing moist heat to the oven. Furthermore, the water bath also slows down direct heat from the oven and helps the cake bake more evenly.
Some bakers have been known to switch the chocolate cake for vanilla or other flavors. That makes it a flan cake and not a chocoflan cake but the concept is still the same and a winner always.

Next coat a 10 inch Bundt pan liberally with vegetable shortening or cooking spray. Then pour the caramel into the Bundt pan.
Finally, pour the chocolate cake batter on top of the caramel layer in the Bundt pan.
Make the Flan
Place all the ingredients for the flan in a blender and blend on high until well incorporated. This should take only about 30 seconds.
Assemble and Bake
Pour the flan batter gradually on top of the chocolate cake batter. Cover the baking pan with aluminum foil and place the pan in a roasting pan. Pour some boiling water into the roasting pan (about halfway of the Bundt pan).
Place the roasting pan in a preheated oven at 350 degrees Farhenhiet and bake for about one and half hours. Check the cake after one hour; if it isn’t done yet, you can remove the foil and bake for additional 20 or 30 minutes.
The cake is done when a toothpick inserted into the cake comes out clean. Remove the pan from the oven and allow it to cool for an hour. Next place it in the fridge for a minimum of 4 hours. Some decorators like to leave it in fridge overnight.
Turn Out And Serve
Remove the cake from the fridge when you are ready to serve. Turn the Bundt pan over onto a serving platter; the cake would turn out flan side up. And surprise!! The flan is now on top of the chocolate instead on under it. That’s actually why some people also call it the magical dessert.
