The pictures and description on the piping tip chart is not legible; they are too tiny. This makes the piping tip difficult to read. Maybe it would work for people with magnifying reading glasses but this shouldn’t be the case.
No Instruction manual
Russian piping tips require a little more advanced piping skills to use. it is sad that the kit didn’t come with an instructional manual. This therefore means that novice decorators either had to watch numerous YouTube videos for instructions. Or harder still learn by trial and error.
Disposable Piping Bags Are Not Very Strong
The piping bags are not really suited to icing/frosting for Russian tips. This makes the piping bags to burst constantly so you might want to use only reusable piping bags for the tips.

Why Are Russian Piping Tips Called Russian?
It is not certain why Russian piping tips are so called. We cannot categorically say that Russian piping tips originated from Russia. As is the case with issues that do not have tangible evidence to back it up, there are a number of speculations about the origin of the name.
Some have said that Russian piping tips were invented in Moscow and stands for different types of Russian flowers. Other people have said that the first online store to sell Russian piping tips just called them by that name.
We are more inclined to go with the faction that posits that Russian piping tips were first invented in Moscow. Thankfully, Russian piping tips have been a big blessing to cake decorators all over the world; its origin notwithstanding.
What Are Russian Piping Tips Used For?
Russian piping tips are used to pipe out entire flowers in one motion; they are large piping tips that have many elaborately designed holes. This is unlike the traditional piping tips that have just one opening for its design.
It is those elaborately designed holes that allow the icing that’s piped through to form the entire flower at once.
Russian piping tips enable you to pipe out a full bouquet of sugar flowers with minimal effort and less time than with a traditional piping tip.
Are Russian Piping Tips Easy To Use?
Some pro cake decorators would tell you that Russian piping tips are easy to use. But we would honestly tell you that while using Russian piping tips is not rocket science, it takes a bit of getting used to.
That being said however, all you need to do is to practise just as you would with other cake decorating tools. By the time you execute 3 projects with Russian piping tips, you too can confidently say that Russian piping tips are easy to use.
Can You Use Russian Piping Tips With Royal Icing?
It is not recommended that you use Russian piping tips with royal icing. This is because royal icing does not hold its shape when used for a 3D shape which is what Russian piping tips are designed to pipe out.
Russian piping tips basically work best with stiff buttercream icing. Some decorators say they prefer to use Italian meringue and other variations of buttercream. But we advise that if you are not a pro decorator, just start out with buttercream. We of course encourage experimentation to find out what consistency works best for which tip.
