There are not less than 55 Wilton decorating tips. These tips are numbered randomly but they cover a wide range of designs.
With Wilton decorating tips, you can churn out a lot of beautiful designs. We have discussed some of these tips in full details in the main article. But there are still other Wilton tips that are not in the kit that we reviewed. Those tip are the extra-large tips and some specialty tips.
What Wilton Tip Makes Hydrangeas?
The Wilton tip that makes hydrangeas is the 2D tip( this is the large drop flower decorating piping tip).
This piping tip is a large one and does not necessarily require a coupler. All you need to do is drop the piping tip into your piping bag. Then you mark off the place where the point of the tip ends. Remove the piping tip and cut off the tip of piping bag to the place where you marked it.
Remember that it is better to trim your bag little by little than because once you cut off too much, you can’t add it back. Ensure that the opening of the piping bag is tight so that your piping tip would not fall through it when you exert pressure to pipe out icing.
How Do You Use Wilton Tip 21?
The following tips show you how you can use the Wilton tip 21 and the designs that you would get:-
(i) Hold up the piping bag straight and firmly squeeze out the icing in even dots to create star shapes
(ii) Angle your piping bag slightly to the right(for right handed decorators) then squeeze out icing going in an up and down motion. This would create a tight zigzag design
(iii) Still holding your piping bag at a slightly angled position, start with a star but drag down the end and stop before pulling up the piping tip. This would create shell borders.
(iv) Hold your piping bag straight up and squeeze out icing in a quick circular motion, then stop and pull off the piping tip. This would create the rosette design.
(v) Angle your piping bag slightly towards you and create ‘commas’ going backwards and forward. You’ll start by creating the first comma, and then start the next comma in the groove of the comma; just slightly above where the tail of the first comma ended. This create a nice rope/braid border
What Number Is A Wilton Star Tip?
Wilton has more than one star tip and the most popular ones range from number 13 to 22. These star tips are numbered from smallest to biggest; so star tip number 13 is the smallest while number 22 is the biggest.
Note that this doesn’t mean that all Wilton’s large tips are numbered in 2 digits. Take for instance the 1M and 2D piping tips are large tips. So when you go to purchase wilton piping tips, just check out the specification. The dimensions (size) of the tip would be indicated in the product description.
What Does Wilton Tip #30 Do?
The Wilton tip #30 is a versatile tip; it is a closed star stip. You can use the #30 tip to pipe stars, grooved shells,fleur de lis and a host of designs on your cake borders.
To extent to which you can use the Wilton #30 is only limited to your imagination. Always bear in mind that the angle at which you hold your piping bag would determine the type of design you would get. Similarly, the pressure you exert on the piping bag and the consistency also impacts upon the end result of your piping.
What Is The Largest Star Decorating Tip?
The largest star decorating tip in the Wilton family is 1M. It is perfect for piping roses/rossettes, drop flowers and swirls. If you want to use this piping tip, you have to use it with the Wilton large coupler. But you can also use it without a coupler.
However, other brands have large star piping tips too. Ateco’s largest star tip is #828. That being said, you should note that each brand have different styles of numbering their piping tips. The product description is a good guide to letting you know the size of the piping tip that you are looking to purchase.
What Piping Tip Makes Roses?
You can use the Wilton #1M or Wilton #1B tip to make roses. If however, you want to make the life-like roses with several petals, then you have to use the #2 round piping tip and either the #104 or #127 petal tips.
When decorating cupcakes, the #1M piping tip comes in handy for piping smaller roses on the cupcake. But if you want the roses to have a lighter and fuller look then use the #1B piping tip.
You can also use #2D to pipe a unique design of rosettes.
Note that these tips would give you different results but they are all sure to be pretty.
How Do You Use The Wilton Tip 67?
The Wilton tip 67 is used to pipe veined leaves. When you want to use the Wilton tip 67, you ensure that the piping tip is fixed in the bag with the tip flat (that is the opening and the prong lie horizontally on the surface you want to pipe on). Then hold your piping bag at a an angle of 45° and press on the bag for about 4 seconds for a build-up of icing that ends with a tail.
With a bit of practise, you would get a hang of using this tip to create realistic leaves on your cakes.
How Do You Use Wilton Coupler?
You use Wilton coupler just the same way as you use other couplers. It’s as simple as 123:-
(1) Throw in the bottom part of your coupler set into a piping bag and mark off just below the screw threads of the coupler.
(2) Remove the coupler and cut the tip off the piping bag where you marked off. Put the coupler back and push the tip of the coupler out of the part that you trimmed out.
(3) Insert a piping tip onto the coupler and then use the other part of the coupler to screw both items together.

How Do You Use Wilton Decorating Icing Pouches?
The Wilton decorating icing pouches are very easy to use; all you need to do is unscrew the cap and pipe away! They come in handy in times of emergency or when you just don’t have the energy to whip up a batch of icing and color before decorating.
The Wilton decorating icing pouch comes with two tips and they are a round tip and a star tip. The round tip (similar to #5 tip) is useful for writing on cakes and other simple decorations while the star tip (similar to star #22) is great for piping stars, borders and a host of other decorations.
The star tip is underneath the round tip. So if you want to use the star tip, you have to unscrew the round tip.
You can also attach a Wilton coupler to the pouch and use with any other piping tip that you desire.
How Do You Use Wilton Color Swirl Decorating Sets?
The Wilton color swirl decorating set is also known as the color swirl coupler set. It is made up of four components which include 3 coupler parts and a ring. Follow these simple steps to assemble your Wilton color swirl decorating set:-
(i) Place each coupler into individual bags; trim the bag just above the last thread of the coupler.
(ii) Hold them together using the notches of each coupler as a guide and then place your piping tip on it and screw all together with the ring. Bear in mind that you can only use large piping tips with this set. Some of Wilton’s large piping tips are 1A, IM, 2C and 4B.
(iii) Fill each bag with the desired color of icing.
(iv) Then hold the bags together with a piping bag ring and pipe away!
